Vintage Photos: Memorial Hall
The Memorial Hall, a Designated Heritage Site, has been a focal point for both the Town and RM of Dufferin.
This series of Vintage Photos captures a few of the many activities the Memorial Hall hosted over the years as well as artifacts from the past that are still part of the building. Photos 1-4 courtesy R.M. of Dufferin and Town of Carman offices.
1. Memorial Hall (1920– ): exterior view of the Memorial Hall. The exterior of the building will remain unchanged during renovations, in keeping with its heritage status.
2. Ladies’ Rest Room ca. 1925: where ladies met and socialized in early years. Later used as the Council Chamber (see News and Events for a 2014 view of the room). Now office space.
3. Graduation Ceremonies: 1952 Carman Collegiate graduation in the upper floor theatre. It was used for graduation ceremonies until the 1960s when the new collegiate opened.
4. Memorial Hall Theatre: Drama Club and other theatre productions provided entertainment in the upper floor of the building.
5. Amateur Night Program: Radio station CJOB hosted a local amateur show in support of a mobile TB screening clinic. Times change—note the sponsor. Click here for larger image.
